However, reviewers are quick to point out that the Range Rover Sport is due for a makeover sometime soon. The vehicle has been featured on several television shows, including a British action program called Top Gear. One of the most impressive features that critics have pointed out for years is the adaptability of the Range Rover Sport. Apparently, the Sport can drive through up to almost 28-inches of water without flooding the engine. For this reason, many branches of the military in foreign countries choose to use the Range Rover Sport in missions.

Range Rover Sport because of poor emission ratings and its part in global warming. News outlets jumped on the story and spread the word about Land Rover’s failure to create vehicles that take less of a toll on the environment. Also, Greenpeace used the poor fuel economy as a reason for the protest, and with only around 14 MPG, the organization seemed to be speaking for the nation as a whole.

Originally, the Range Rover Sport was called the Range Stormer in its concept stage. Though the Stormer was far from the current Range Rover Sport, the exterior design hinted at what was to come with the Sport. Many visitors to auto shows that featured the vehicle were excited that Land Rover was going to release a contemporary model, but quickly had their hopes dashed when the Range Rover Sport made it onto sales lots.

The Range Rover Sport is a smaller version of the Range Rover and shares the same platform as the Discovery. The 5-passenger Range Rover Sport has become one of Land Rover’s top selling vehicles in the years since its inception. Since 2005, the Range Rover Sport has been available with four different engine levels: the Jaguar AJ V8, a supercharged AJ V8, a turbo diesel V8, and a turbo diesel V6. The horsepower ranges from 295 to a whopping 410. Buyers were thrilled with the options in the beginning, but since fuel prices have been on the rise, some are opting for more efficient SUVs.

These midsized luxury SUVs are renowned for their ability to go virtually anywhere - and they also handle very well on the roads. This is especially impressive considering their nearly-6000 pound vehicular weight. Coincidentally, the main drag about the LR3s is the fact that they deliver only 17/12 mpg highway/city - sort of like a tank as well.

The 2009 LR3 has seen little change from the 2008 models. There have been a few exterior and interior tweaks, but otherwise they are direct carryovers. The most impressive characteristic of the LR3 is its beautiful blending of rugged power with a superior riding experience. Posh interior styling makes riders feel like they at home - even in the midst of the harshest terrain scenarios. The 2009 LR3 is as equally capable of effortlessly infiltrating bear country as it is at cruising the Vegas strip and commanding attention.

Range Rover Convertible

28th August 2009

The awkward looking (with the roof up or down) Range Rover Convertible was built by Newport Convertible Engineering (NEC) of Placentia, California. The folks over at NEC retained the Range Rover’s door frames while they also added a central roll bar. To solve the problem with the rear hatch, NEC engineered a unique split tailgate.

Available in two models, the HSE and Supercharged, both are powered by V8 engines: a 4.4-liter, V8 that makes 300-horsepower, and a 4.2-liter, supercharged V8 which develops 390-horsepower.

The muscular style that defines the Sport is evident in the strong lines of this vehicle’s shoulders. And, while the Sport does still have the tell-tale Land Rover clamshell hood as well as the classic floating roof, the Sport defines itself with its unique rear spoiler as well as the cleverly styled wheel arches. Another standard feature in the Sport HSE is the 19-inch alloy wheels. The body of the Range Rover Sport is made of durable aluminum for safety as well as decreased weight. One of the more driver-friendly features of the all-terrain Sport is that it comes standard with heated mirrors. This feature also extends to the rear window.

The Range Rover Sport offers a rich interior complemented by leather seats and a fine oak trim that enhances the interior doors, dash and console; which, by the way, includes a mini-fridge for those individuals who prefer those on-the-go drinks to be nice and cold. The driver will feel like a pilot in the air while driving this vehicle since the instrumentation panel as well as the driver’s seat are all positioned in a similar manner. The music lover will be pleased about the premium sound system with Bose technology while others may appreciate a Bluetooth capable, integrated phone system. The Sport Supercharged model also features a high tech navigation system complete with GPS technology as well as a 2 screen entertainment system in the rear. This way, the driver can keep the kids occupied while mapping out the route to the theme park.

Although the 2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport looks nice and offers lots of amenities, many individuals do not feel that it is worth the purchase price or the fuel bill. Competitors, like Mercedes, Lexus and BMW are developing luxury SUV’s with similar options that are selling for thousands less while also offering the consumer a higher mpg rating.
